LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Today, Nevada
Governor Steve Sisolak, Department of Education (NDE) Superintendent Jhone
Ebert, Lieutenant Governor Lisa Cano Burkhead, and Clark County School District
(CCSD) Superintendent Jesus Jara visited R Guild Gray Elementary School to
celebrate Nevada Reading Week. Each education leader visited classrooms to read
to 2nd and 3rd grade students.
“I always appreciate the
opportunity to visit our classrooms and engage with our students, and today’s
Nevada Reading Week celebration has been incredibly special,” said Governor
Steve Sisolak. “Education is a top priority of mine, and we will continue
to make meaningful investments to support our educators and improve education
for our students.”
“Reading is fundamental to the
success of our students, and while Reading Week is a week-long celebration,
this is a key component of education all year long,” said Jhone Ebert, State
Superintendent of Public Instruction. “I encourage our educators, school
leaders, and family members to make reading a fun, engaging, and daily part of
life to spark a life-long passion for reading in your children.”
“Every time I’m in a school
building I say I’m at home,” said Lieutenant Governor Cano Burkhead. “So
not only as an educator to message the importance of reading, but also as a
mother of three daughters who were excited for this week, it was an absolute privilege
to celebrate Nevada Reading Week at Gray Elementary School today.”
The books shared by State leaders
focused on themes of inclusivity, gratitude for educators, and stories of
strong females in honor of Women’s History Month, which began today on March 1.
