Gehring and Bracken Named National NSEA Distinguished Schools

    November 29, 2018

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Clark County School District’s Roger D. Gehring Elementary and Walter Bracken STEAM Academy have been recognized nationally as National Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Distinguished Schools for academic achievement by the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA).

“Gehring and Bracken exemplify that every student deserves the same educational opportunities regardless of their circumstances,” said Steve Canavero, Ph. D., Superintendent of Public Instruction. “Congratulations to the students, parents, teachers and administrators at these schools for their outstanding success.”

Both schools are identified as Title I schools because they have a high percentage of low-income students and receive federal funds to ensure all students meet challenging state academic standards. The Nevada Department of Education’s nominations of Gehring Elementary and Bracken are based on outstanding academic performance on the Smarter Balanced Assessment and the Nevada School Performance Framework results.

“I am proud of the hard work of our teachers, support professionals and administrators in these distinguished schools, who are helping students achieve academically,” said Clark County School District Superintendent Jesus F. Jara. “Educators in both of these schools are finding ways to connect with kids in the classroom so every student receives a rich and rigorous education. This recognition proves that CCSD is the best choice in Clark County.”

Gehring and Bracken will be recognized as one of the National ESEA Distinguished Schools at the National ESEA Conference, January 30 - February 2 in Kansas City, and honored as recipients of this award. More information about all National ESEA Distinguished Schools is available on the ESEA Network website: www.ESEAnetwork.org.
