The Nevada Department of Education (NDE), Office of Early Learning and Development (OELD) was awarded a $30 million Federal Preschool Development Grant Birth through 5 (PDG B-5) Renewal Grant. This new funding is broken apart at $10million per year for three years: 2023, 2024, and 2025.

The purpose of the PDG B-5 Renewal Grant is to strengthen Nevada's Early Childhood Comprehensive System through collaborative partnership with stakeholders and families. Many early childhood serving agencies and organizations are united under the work of the Early Childhood Advisory Council and its statewide strategic vision: Nevada's children will be safe, healthy, and thriving during the first eight years of life, and the system will support children and families in achieving their full potential. The PDG B-5 Vision, Goals and Activities specify our aim to use this funding to reimagine the statewide supports and opportunities that are available for young children and their families.

All children and families have equitable access to receive and participate in high-quality, affordable, and comprehensive ECCE programs and services and can meaningfully engage within and experience a seamless early learning continuum that inclusively, culturally, and linguistically meets their needs.

The Renewal Grant will work toward achieving its vision by strengthening early childhood supports in three main areas:

These main areas of support intersect at multiple and various points within and across six grant activities (listed below). Overall, the work of the grant strives to reimagine existing approaches to family engagement, seeking authentic engagement within the system and resulting in families that are able to easily navigate the many supports our state already has to offer. It also strives to increase access to high-quality programs for vulnerable children and stabilize the early childhood workforce in collaboration with critical statewide partners.

1. Parents and families engage in a comprehensive B-5 system that is intuitive and useful in a way that works for them and empowers their role as their child's first and most important teacher.
2. The Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) workforce feels valued in their profession, is supported by the system, and chooses to enter and stay in the field as a career.
3. Strengthened ECCE systems infrastructure enhances mutual respect and shared understanding of best practices and research-based child development and education.
4. Access to high-quality ECCE settings enable children to thrive in developmentally appropriate care and learning environments throughout the early learning continuum of Birth through 3rd grade (or 0-8).
5. Data-informed decision making and evaluation inform the continuous quality improvement of all components of the ECCE system, including the statewide strategic plan, with a central focus on equity and equitable outcomes for vulnerable populations.
