2023 Nevada Teacher of the Year-Connie Hall

Connie Hall is a Kindergarten teacher at Lloyd Diedrichsen Elementary School in Sparks, Nevada. Connie is enthusiastic about teaching children, helping other teachers and families, and supporting her community. 

Connie Hall began her teaching career in 1994. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Oakwood University - Huntsville, Alabama, and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a Minor in Common Core State Standards from Concordia University-Portland, Oregon. She currently holds a Professional State of Nevada teaching license for grades K-8.  

Connie has taught children from Nursery to grade 3 and has experience in teaching combination grades. She has also worked as a K-2 Interventionist. Since she has taught primary grade students, Connie wanted to do something to build relationships with older students by turning her love for the game Scrabble into an after-school club for students in grades 3 - 5. 

While teaching, Connie also serves on the school Leadership Team. Connie was named the 2019 Certified Employee of the Year for Washoe County School District and received a Certificate of Commendation from Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. Her classroom was filmed and featured in articles for several district and national projects to demonstrate a culturally responsive classroom for training for teachers in her district. She was also filmed with some of her students for a Great!Schools.org project to show examples for parents of different reading styles and what reading looks like for a first grader. She and her students were one of five classrooms chosen nationally to be featured in the The New Teaching Project project "Room to Run," showing what kids can do with challenging, inspiring schoolwork.
