Superintendent Ebert Welcomes Student Representative to Nevada State Board of Education

    June 06, 2019

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Rui Ya Wang has been appointed by Governor Steve Sisolak as the Student Representative on the Nevada State Board of Education and will be attending her first meeting today.

“I truly appreciate having a student voice on the State Board of Education,” said Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “While historically the student representative is not often the most vocal member on the board, this individual has often provided a reality check on critical issues.”

Wang is a high school student attending West Career and Technical Academy under the Biomedical Sciences Program. She is a part of the National Honor Society, DECA (a student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs to be college and career ready), and will serve as the Student Body Historian for the 2019-2020 school year. She has also been a participating member of the Las Vegas Music Teachers Association playing in piano solos, duets, and quintets.

The Governor appoints a student to the Board who has been nominated by the Nevada Association of Student Councils and in consultation with the Nevada Youth Legislature.
