CARSON CITY, Nev. – Gov. Steve Sisolak announced today that Jessica Li and Sidney Taylor have been selected as Nevada’s student delegates for the 50th Annual National Youth Science Camp. They will attend the National Youth Science Camp, held near the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank, West Virginia.

“We are extremely proud of Jessica and Sidney who will represent Nevada well,” Gov. Sisolak said. “They were selected because they have demonstrated excellence in academic achievement in mathematics and the sciences. They have exemplified leadership, social maturity and achievement throughout their education as well as in their daily lives as demonstrated with their service to their community, athletic achievement, and work experience.”

Li attends Clark High School in the Clark County School District. She has also been a National Merit Finalist who has been the co-president of her school’s Science Olympiad team for the past six years. She is also an AP scholar with distinction, a participant in the MIT Women’s Technology Program in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and received the Nevada Seal of Biliteracy. Li’s interests include orchestral violin and tennis, where she has been on her school’s varsity tennis team for four years.

Taylor attends the Davidson Academy in Reno. She is a National Merit Program Commended Student who has gained distinction from receiving honors from the Harvard Prize Book and the Society of Women Engineers. She has worked as a research intern for STEMBOPS, working at the University of Nevada, Reno laboratories in the computer science field. Taylor’s interests also include cross country and basketball where she has been a member of Nevada’s All-State Academic Teams for both sports.

The National Youth Science Camp, established in 1963, invites two delegates from each state to exchange ideas with leading scientists and other professionals from the academic, government, and corporate sectors. Scientists from across the United States cover topics such as nanotechnology, cybersecurity, virtual and augmented reality, and developing cures for Alzheimer’s disease via seminars and hands-on research opportunities.
