Nevada Department of Education Accepting 2020 Teacher of the Year Nominations
CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Education will be accepting nominations and applications for the 2020 Teacher of the Year through June 17.
New to Nevada this year is the opportunity for the honoree to serve for one year as the Teacher Leader in Residence within the Nevada Department of Education. This person would also help lead the Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Cabinet.
“If you or anyone you know in the teaching profession is interested, this is not only a great honor but a tremendous professional development opportunity,” said Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “I’m looking forward to the next Teacher of the Year working within the Department of Education as the Teacher Leader in Residence.”
Nevada participates in the national Teacher of the Year program that is run by the Council of Chief State School Officers that brings together state honorees from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Washington, DC, and the Department of Defense Education Activity. A national winner is selected and all teacher representatives spend a week in Washington, DC that culminates with a White House visit.
Those interested must be a classroom teacher and have a valid Nevada teacher’s license to be eligible for consideration. This year’s winner will be announced in August. For more information go to the Nevada Department of Education’s Teacher of the Year online application.
