CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Education today announced that the Office of Special Education has expanded to include Indian Education, as well as Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). Given this expansion, the Office of Special Education will now be known as the Office of Inclusive Education (OIE).

“The new Office of Inclusive Education will continue to partner with Nevada educators to provide high-quality educational opportunities for every single student,” said Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “The change of our name reflects our commitment to inclusivity in all of our work. I am confident that this reorganization will help us better serve students with disabilities, American Indian students, and Gifted and Talented students and their families.”

Indian Education has moved from the Office of Student and School Supports (OSSS) to the Office of Inclusive Education. While GATE has already been housed in the Office of Special Education, this change means that the work of GATE will be fully integrated into the new OIE.

Will Jensen directs the Office of Inclusive Education. Fredina Romero directs Indian Education and Andrew Morgan directs GATE.
