CARSON CITY, Nev. – Brett Barley, Jhone Ebert and Seng-Dao Yang Keo were selected by the Nevada State Board of Education for consideration by Governor Steve Sisolak for appointment as the next Superintendent of Public Instruction.

“All three of the candidates we are sending to Governor Sisolak possess the qualifications we believe are essential to ensure that the students in our state are college and career ready when they graduate from high school,” said Elaine Wynn, Board President. “For Nevada’s economy to continue to evolve, our education system must produce a skilled workforce and ensure that students are not left behind.”

• Brett Barley has been the Superintendent of the Wonderful College Prep Academy in Delano, Calif., since August. He spent the previous two years as the Deputy State Superintendent for Student Achievement at the Nevada Department of Education. He also has experience as a teacher and education advocate. A graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law, Barley is a member of the California Bar Association.

• Jhone Ebert has served as the Senior Deputy Commissioner for P-20 Education Policy at the New York State Education Department since 2015. She spent the previous 25 years in the Clark County School District where her last position was Chief Innovation & Productivity Officer. She began her career as a math teacher. Ebert has a Master of Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

• Seng-Dao Yang Keo has been the Director of the Office of Student and School Supports at the Nevada Department of Education since 2016. She has Master’s and Doctorate Degrees from Harvard where she held positions of Mary Finnegan Fellow, Resident and Teacher Career Ladder Project Manager and most recently she was an Online Facilitator for the Certificate in Advanced Education Leadership: Leading Learning. Prior to her graduate school work at Harvard, Yang Keo worked as a math teacher and investment banking analyst.
