CARSON CITY, Nev. – Today, the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) announced a new partnership with Schoolhouse.world to provide no-cost tutoring services in high school mathematics and SAT preparation for Nevada’s students. Schoolhouse.world was launched in 2020 by Sal Khan, the founder of Khan Academy online learning website, to help students who are struggling academically due to the circumstances created by COVID-19. Since then, Schoolhouse.world has run over a thousand tutoring sessions with students from more than 40 countries. Current offerings include tutoring in high school mathematics and SAT preparation, with plans to add additional grade levels and content areas in the future. Tutoring sessions are available day and night as volunteer tutors – including over 400 high school students, teachers, professionals, and PhDs – come from around the globe.

Now with Schoolhouse.world, we're excited to work with the Nevada Department of Education to supplement that with free, live tutoring to students across Nevada."

Nevada is one of the first states in the nation to offer this service for middle and high school students (grades 6-12) Statewide. Students can sign up to use Schoolhouse.world by visiting the Nevada Digital Learning Collaborative website at nvdigitallearning.org. There is no time limit for registration and an unlimited number of students may take advantage of this opportunity. All tutoring sessions are conducted virtually through Zoom. To ensure safety and security, all sessions and student interactions are recorded and monitored.

Schoolhouse.world is an addition to the suite of tools made available through the Nevada Digital Learning Collaborative (NvDLC), a website that helps pre-K-12 educators, students, and families thrive in an online learning environment. On the NvDLC website, educators find high-quality curricular materials and instructional strategies to help them meaningfully connect with students and families. The NvDLC website also includes tools to support educators in addressing the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities and students who are English Learners. In addition, NvDLC site hosts professional learning programs through which educators can hone their virtual teaching skills.
