    Governor Sisolak, Superintendent Ebert, Lieutenant Governor Cano Burkhead, and CCSD Superintendent Jara Read to Students for Nevada Reading Week

    LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Today, NevadaGovernor Steve Sisolak, Department of Education (NDE) Superintendent JhoneEbert, Lieutenant Governor Lisa Cano Burkhead, and Clark County School District(CCSD) Superintendent Jesus Jara visited R Guild Gray Elementary School tocelebrate Nevada Reading Week. Each education leader visited classrooms to readto 2nd and 3rd grade students.  

    “I always appreciate theopportunity to visit our classrooms and engage with our students, and today’sNevada Reading Week celebration has been incredibly special,” said GovernorSteve Sisolak. “Education is a top priority of mine, and we will continueto make meaningful investments to support our educators and improve educationfor our students.”

    “Reading is fundamental to thesuccess of our students, and while Reading Week is a week-long celebration,this is a key component of education all year long,” said Jhone Ebert, StateSuperintendent of Public Instruction. “I encourage our educators, schoolleaders, and family members to make reading a fun, engaging, and daily part oflife to spark a life-long passion for reading in your children.”

    “Every time I’m in a schoolbuilding I say I’m at home,” said Lieutenant Governor Cano Burkhead. “Sonot only as an educator to message the importance of reading, but also as amother of three daughters who were excited for this week, it was an absolute privilegeto celebrate Nevada Reading Week at Gray Elementary School today.”

    The books shared by State leadersfocused on themes of inclusivity, gratitude for educators, and stories ofstrong females in honor of Women’s History Month, which began today on March 1.

    The Nevada Department of Education(NDE or Department) recognizes Nevada Reading Week, celebrated February 28 –March 4, 2022. Proclaimed byGovernor Steve Sisolak, NevadaReading Week is focused on inspiring and instilling thejoy and importance of reading across Nevada.

    The theme for Nevada Reading Week2022 is “Catch the Reading Wave.” There are many ways educators, schoolleaders, librarians, students, and families can celebrate and participate inNevada Reading Week, access the NDE pressrelease for more information.
