    Nevada Department of Education Invites Community to Virtual Visioning Session for Future of Education on March 15

    CARSON CITY, Nev. – The NevadaDepartment of Education (NDE or Department) invites the public to participate inVisioning and Action Planning Sessions to envision the future of learning anddesign student-centered solutions. Students, educators, families, educationleaders, higher education institutions, businesses, and community members are encouragedto join the Visioningand Action Planning Kick-off, which will behosted virtually on Tuesday, March 15, 4:00 – 5:30 PM PST, with several workinggroup sessions to follow.

    “I am proud of our community and school leaders for laying afoundation for the future of education, and I extend my gratitude to all whohave been involved in competency-based education,” said Jhone Ebert, StateSuperintendent of Public Instruction. “As this work moves forward I inviteyou to learn, explore, and participate in the conversation."

    The upcoming sessions represent the next steps in Nevada’sinnovative move to flexibly incorporate competency-based education practicesthroughout the State. Previous competency-based education work includes the Competency-Based Education Network, an opportunity created by Assembly Bill 110 (2017), and the2020 work of the Blue Ribbon Commission whoserecommendations were passed into law with Senate Bill 215 (2021).

    "This is an invitation to think big, and to challengeourselves to think differently about what we want and what it's going to taketo achieve that vision," said Dr. Jonathan Moore, Deputy Superintendentfor Student Achievement. “It is our hope that members of the Nevadacommunity will participate to share their individual perspectives on education.”
