    Superintendent Ebert Welcomes Student Representative to Nevada State Board of Education

    Malia Poblete will serve as the Student Representative for the 2022-23 School Year

    CARSON CITY, Nev. Malia Poblete has been appointed by Governor Steve Sisolak as the Student Representative for the Nevada State Board of Education (SBE or Board), and will be attending their first meeting on July 7, 2022, at 2:00 P.M.

    "It is vital to keep student voice central in conversations and decisions around K-12 education," said Jhone Ebert, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. "I welcome this appointment as we continue to move towards the goal of ensuring that each and every Nevada student is able to attain their vision of success."

    Malia Poblete is a high school junior currently attending Durango High School in the Clark County School District. She is involved with various extracurriculars including the National Honor Society and is the student representative for Durango's school organizational team. In the fall, she will serve as Junior Class President for the 2022-2023 school year.

    "I extend my congratulations to Malia Poblete for the honor of being selected to represent the almost-500,000 students throughout Nevada on our State Board of Education," said Governor Steve Sisolak. "Malia Poblete has stepped up to join our State Board of Education, Superintendent Ebert, and Department in their important work to improve student outcomes."

    "Our State Board student representative provides critical insights for all Board members to guide our work," said Felicia Ortiz, President of the State Board of Education. "In a time when education must continue to evolve rapidly to keep up with student and educator needs, the direct connection with our Nevada students is imperative."

    The Student Representative is nominated by the Nevada Association of Student Councils, in consultation with the Nevada Youth Legislature, and appointed by the Governor for a one-year term as a non-voting member of the Nevada State Board of Education.
