Architecture and Construction

Overview

This Career Cluster® is focused on careers in designing, planning, managing, building, and maintaining the built environment.

The Employability Skills for Career Readiness Standards must be an integrated component of all CTE course sequences.

Architectural Design (SY 2022-23 was the last year offered)

The Architectural Design program introduces students to the principles of architectural design. Areas of emphasis include spatial reasoning, elements and principles of design, application of the design process, advanced digital drawing techniques, building codes, and professional presentation techniques.

Students who started the program of study in or prior to the 2022-23 school year will complete program sequence as stated in the 2022-23 CTE Course Catalog. The Level 3 course for students who started the program of study in or prior to the 2022-23 school year will be offered through the 2024-25 school year.

Building Trades in Construction Technology Program of Study with Complementary Course Standards(valid beginning 2022-23 school year)

The Building Trades in Construction Technology program provides students with the opportunity to develop technical skills in in the building trades within the construction industry. Students will develop skills in the areas of construction including safety, proper use of hand and power tools, blueprint reading, framing, floor systems, finish carpentry, exterior finish applications, fundamental design techniques, identifying material properties and hardware, manufacturing processes, and applying basic principles of plumbing and electrical.

These Standards have been revised to include standards for complementary course(s) and introduces course sequencing after each Performance Indicator which was formerly shown in the Curriculum Frameworks.

The Supplemental Program Resources Document combines information originally found in the Program of Study and Equipment List Documents as well as the Crosswalks that were previously listed at the end of each set of program standards.

Construction Technology (SY 2021-22 was the last year offered)

The Construction Technology program provides students the opportunity to develop technical skills that are used throughout the construction industry. Areas of study include safety, blueprint reading, carpentry and rough framing, exterior finishing applications, surveying, site development, scaffolding, electrical, plumbing, concrete, and masonry.

Students who started the program of study in or prior to the 2021-22 school year will complete program sequence as stated in the 2020-21 CTE Course Catalog. The Level 3 course for students who started the program of study in or prior to the 2021-22 school year will be offered through the 2023-24 school year.
