    Applications Now Open for Teacher Recruitment and Retention Advisory Task Force

    Carson City, NV - November 12, 2021

    CARSON CITY, Nev. – TheNevada Department of Education (NDE or Department) has opened the applicationfor the Nevada Teacher Recruitment and Retention Advisory Task Force (TaskForce). NDE, on behalf of the Legislative Committee on Education, will acceptapplications until January 15, 2022.

    TheNevada Teacher Recruitment and Retention Advisory Task Force was created withthe passage of Assembly Bill (AB) 276 (2019) during the 80th Sessionof the Nevada Legislature. The charge of the Task Force is to evaluate andaddress the challenges of attracting and retaining teachers throughout Nevada,then to make recommendations to the Legislative Committee on Education toaddress these challenges.

    “Themost important in-school factor impacting student success is their classroomteacher, which is why the Nevada Department of Education is committed toexpanding and diversifying our educator workforce,” said Jhone Ebert, StateSuperintendent of Public Instruction. “I appreciate the dedication of theeducators who have served on the Teacher Recruitment and Retention AdvisoryTask Force to date, and encourage all Nevada educators to apply to be a part ofthis important work going forward.”

    TheTask Force will meet a minimum of four times per year for the purpose ofaddressing the challenges with attracting and retaining teachers throughoutthis State. On or before February 1 of each odd-numbered year, the Task Forcewill submit a report to the Director of the Legislative Council Bureau fortransmission to the Legislature describing its findings and recommendations.

    Tobe eligible for the Task Force, educators must meet the following requirementsas listed on the Nevada TeacherRecruitment and Retention Advisory Task Force Application:

    • Be licensed with at least five consecutive years of teachingexperience in a public school in Nevada
    • Be currently employed as a teacher and actively teaching in apublic school in this State for the duration of the member’s term
    • Not currently be serving on any other education-related board,commission, task force, or similar governmental entity

    Educatorsare encouraged to submit their online application for the Teacher Recruitmentand Retention Advisory Task Force on or before Saturday, January 15, 2022.
