CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Education announced Thursday that high school graduation rates increased for the Class of 2024 compared with the previous year.

The statewide graduation rate was 81.6 percent – up from 81.4 percent for the Class of 2023. In total, 31,978 students graduated this year.

"The increase we saw in Nevada in the statewide high school graduation rate is a step in the right direction,” said Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “Any improvement is cause for celebration, even a modest one like we experienced last year. The reality is this: It is premature to claim victory as long as even one student is struggling to graduate. We applaud the hard work of educators and students. At the same time, we acknowledge that our agenda is unfinished, and work remains."

In 14 of Nevada’s 17 school districts, as well as the State Public Charter School Authority, students graduated at a higher rate than the state average.

Nine school districts showed increases in graduation rates compared with the previous year.

Nye County School District saw a 6.12-percentage point increase in its graduation rate, at 86.1 percent for the Class of 2024.

Other districts with year-to-year increases include Carson City, Douglas, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Lyon, Mineral, Washoe, and White Pine.

Seven districts had 2024 graduation rates that exceeded 90 percent:

• Esmeralda - 100 percent
• Eureka - 100 percent
• Lincoln - 97 percent
• Pershing - 94.7 percent
• Humboldt - 92.6 percent
• White Pine - 91.2 percent
• Lander - 90.7 percent

Statewide, the graduation rate was 96.9 percent for career and technical education students.

Graduation Rate by Student Race/Ethnicity

• The graduation rate for students who identify as Hispanic/Latino increased 0.3 percentage points to 80.3 percent.
• The graduation rate for students who identify as American Indian/Alaska Native increased 9.3 percentage points to 74 percent.
• The graduation rate for students who identify as Asian decreased 0.5 percentage points to 92.8 percent.
• The graduation rate for students who identify as Black/African American decreased 0.7 percentage points to 69.8 percent.
• The graduation rate for students who identify with two or more races decreased 0.2 percentage points to 82 percent.
• The graduation rate for students who identify as Pacific Islanders increased 2.6 percentage points to 82.4 percent.
• The graduation rate for students who identify as white increased 0.6 percentage points to 86.2 percent.

Graduation Rate by Student Special Populations

• The graduation rate for students from families experiencing poverty decreased 0.2 percentage points to 81.2 percent.
• The graduation rate for students with disabilities increased 1.4 percentage points to 68.2 percent.
• The graduation rate for students who are English learners (EL) decreased 1.3 percentage points to 71.5 percent.
• The graduation rate for students who are experiencing transient housing increased 1.1 percentage points to 62.2 percent.
• The graduation rate for students in career and technical education (CTE) increased 1.1 percentage points to 96.9 percent.
• The graduation rate for students in foster care increased 0.6 percentage points to 42.6 percent.
• The graduation rate for students whose family members are in the military decreased 0.6 percentage points to 84.3 percent.
