Nevada Department of Education Announces New Educator Workforce and Class Sizes Portal

February 3, 2025

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Education is pleased to announce the launch of its new Nevada Educator Workforce and Class Sizes Portal.

The new data portal, which is accessible to members of the public, went live on Friday.

“The portal allows the Nevada Department of Education to provide constituents across our state with transparent and easily accessible information about the educator workforce and class sizes,” said Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “This data also highlights the positive impact of recent pay increases for our dedicated, hardworking school employees. Having a highly effective classroom teacher is a crucial factor in a student’s success.”

The portal includes:

  • Annual updates on staffing and retention rates each January.
  • Data breakdowns by district, school, grade level, and school category.
  • Daily updates on average experienced class sizes for K-12 core classes.
  • Year-over-year comparisons to track trends and progress.

The Nevada Department of Education is proud to celebrate successes regarding the educator workforce following Governor Joe Lombardo signing the largest education budget in state history for the 2023-25 biennium.

The data portal helps to quantify the impact of increased funding. Successes include:

  • The teacher workforce increased by 1,200 educators year-over-year.
  • Teacher retention improved at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
  • There was a 30 percent reduction in teacher attrition.

For the last two years, the Nevada Department of Education has worked with school districts and public charter schools to clean and validate data regarding the educator workforce and class sizes.

This work culminated with the creation of the data portal in partnership with Data Insight Partners, and Nevada school districts and public charter schools.

"This new portal is a game-changer for transparency and advocacy," said Nathan Trenholm, founding partner of Data Insight Partners. "For the first time, parents, district staff, advocates, and policymakers will have access to timely data on class sizes and educator workforce trends. This information will empower us to make informed decisions that support our children's education and workforce development."

The Nevada State Board of Education heard a presentation during its Jan. 8 meeting with an overview of the site.
