    Guy Hobbs Appointed as Chair of 11-Member Commission on School Funding

    CARSONCITY, Nev. – Guy Hobbswas appointed by Governor Steve Sisolak to chair the 11-member Commission on School Funding (Commission) as they continue the work that began in September 2019 to guide the implementation of the Pupil-CenteredFunding Plan (PCFP), Nevada’s new K-12 education funding formula. Prior to hisappointment as Chair, Hobbs served on the Commission as Vice Chair. 

    “As theCommission on School Funding moves into its next phase of monitoring theimplementation of the Pupil-Centered Funding Plan, Guy Hobbs has the backgroundand skills necessary to lead this work, which is exceptionally important to advancingequity in Nevada’s education system,” said Jhone Ebert, State Superintendentof Public Instruction. “Hobbs has provided invaluable leadership during thepast two years in his role as Vice-Chair, and we are grateful that he isbringing his experience in fiscal policy and school finance to bear on this criticaleffort.”

    Hobbsbrings extensive experience in Nevada school finance to the Commission, havingserved as Chief Financial Officer for Clark County from 1983 to 1995. Prior tothat, Mr. Hobbs served as a member of the faculty of the Department ofManagement at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and as a Research Associatein the Center for Business and Economic Research. Since 1996, Mr. Hobbs hasbeen in private practice in the field of public finance. Beginning in 1980, hehas served on several committees and commissions created by the StateLegislature dealing with tax policy, debt administration, and governmentalfinance.
