Indian Education

Overview

Indian Education is housed in the Office of Inclusive Education, at the Nevada Department of Education (NDE). Indian Education provides technical assistance and direction to school districts and schools in the unique needs of American Indian (AI) students, as well as collaborates with tribes and organizations throughout Nevada to ensure student achievement for AI students. In 1997, the Legislature enacted Assembly Bill 266, which provided funding to the Nevada Department of Education to hire Education Consultants, specifically one position that would work with AI students

Honoring Native Land

Honoring Native Land: The Nevada Department of Education acknowledges the traditional homelands of the Numu (Northern Paiute), Nuwu (Southern Paiute), Waší∙šiw (Washoe), and Newe (Western Shoshone), and Pipa Aha Macav (Fort Mohave) in what is now the state of Nevada. We encourage everyone in this space to engage in continued learning about the Indigenous peoples who have lived on this land since time immemorial.
