Nevada Private Schools
Overview
There are 132 private schools in the state of Nevada, 91 in Southern Nevada and 41 in Northern Nevada. All private schools must be licensed by the Nevada Department of Education. A majority of the private schools are exempt from the Private Elementary and Secondary Education Authorization Act. Exempt private schools are those connected to a church or ministry, another government agency, or a fraternal/benevolent entity. All private schools, exempt or not, must provide at least the curriculum required of public schools, 180 days of instruction, and the same number of minutes per day that is required of public schools. Private schools are not funded by the state, but parents may apply for an Educational Choice Scholarship if their child attends a private school that is registered to receive those scholarships. Some schools offer their own tuition assistance. Parents who enroll their children in private schools agree to pay tuition and fees the school requires.
