CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Education (NDE or Department) has opened the application for the Nevada Teacher Recruitment and Retention Advisory Task Force (Task Force). NDE, on behalf of the Legislative Committee on Education, will accept applications until January 15, 2022.

The Nevada Teacher Recruitment and Retention Advisory Task Force was created with the passage of Assembly Bill (AB) 276 (2019) during the 80th Session of the Nevada Legislature. The charge of the Task Force is to evaluate and address the challenges of attracting and retaining teachers throughout Nevada, then to make recommendations to the Legislative Committee on Education to address these challenges.

“The most important in-school factor impacting student success is their classroom teacher, which is why the Nevada Department of Education is committed to expanding and diversifying our educator workforce,” said Jhone Ebert, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “I appreciate the dedication of the educators who have served on the Teacher Recruitment and Retention Advisory Task Force to date, and encourage all Nevada educators to apply to be a part of this important work going forward.”

The Task Force will meet a minimum of four times per year for the purpose of addressing the challenges with attracting and retaining teachers throughout this State. On or before February 1 of each odd-numbered year, the Task Force will submit a report to the Director of the Legislative Council Bureau for transmission to the Legislature describing its findings and recommendations.
