Overview
Early identification of children’s needs ensures that young children receive the services and supports necessary to maximize their opportunities for healthy development and learning. It is imperative that a screening procedure be in place to ensure children are identified and receive the supports they need.
The Brigance Early Childhood Screens III (Brigance) is a collection of quick and reliable early childhood education assessments and data-gathering tools that are nationally standardized.
Requirements for Pre-K: The Brigance will be used by Nevada Ready! State Pre-K, Zoom, and Victory Pre-K programs as a pre/post screen. This developmental screen, including the Self-help/Social-Emotional Scales, should be administered within the first 30 days of school and again within the last 30 days of school. All children, including children with disabilities in inclusive classrooms, should be screened by personnel who have been trained.
Requirement for Kindergarten: The Brigance is also used as the Kindergarten Entry Assessment (KEA) across the state of Nevada. This developmental screen, including the Self-help/Social-Emotional Scales, should be administer up to 15 days prior to the start of school or within the first 30 instructional days.
All scores should be entered into the Curriculum Associates Online Management System.
