Superintendent's Student Advisory Group for Education (NV SAGE)
Overview
In August 2024, the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) launched the Superintendent’s Advisory Group on Education (SAGE). The initiative was designed to empower students across Nevada to actively participate in shaping state education policy. It was created at the request of Nevada State Board of Education student member Michael Keyes, from Pahrump Valley High School. NV SAGE is made up of students who represent school districts across Nevada, including urban, suburban, rural, and charter.
Student advisory members:
-
Advocate for positive changes in the state’s public schools.
-
Act as liaisons between their schools, districts, and the state.
-
Amplify student voices by sharing concerns and feedback on educational priorities.
-
Encourage greater student involvement in statewide programs.
NV SAGE’s primary purpose is to inform and advise the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) on initiatives and priorities. Members not only provide insight from their experiences but also serve as ambassadors in their school communities.
SAGE members meet virtually four times per year with the Superintendent of Public Instruction, with the potential for additional meetings at the request of the Superintendent. SAGE members may receive up to 15 community service hours per school year. SAGE members commit to serve a one-year term that is renewable for one additional year.
Please note that NV SAGE is a non-statutory group and is not subject to open meeting law.
