GEAR UP
Overview
Nevada's State GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded, competitive grant that is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. Students are identified to participate in GEAR UP during their 6th grade year and take part in GEAR UP activities that continue through high school and into college. The state grant currently serves 5 schools and over 10,800 students throughout the state.
Nevada GEAR UP’s Vision:
We envision a Nevada where all students, regardless of race or socioeconomic status, attain the postsecondary training and education needed to lead rewarding, productive lives.
GEAR UP’s Mission:
Nevada GEAR UP’s Mission is to help all GEAR UP students graduate high school and transition smoothly to college by collaborating with higher education institutions in providing students with the necessary supports and information to ensure they are knowledgeable and prepared.
Nevada GEAR UP’s Goals:
- Significantly increase the rate of high school graduation and enrollment in postsecondary education for Nevada GEAR UP Students.
- Significantly increase the number of Nevada GEAR UP students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
- Increase Nevada GEAR UP student’s and families’ knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation, and financing.
