Two Nevada leaders host listening sessions with Nevada educators, parents, and school leaders

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Nevada State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebertand Lieutenant Governor Lisa Cano Burkhead partnered to host a series of listening sessions with Nevada education stakeholders this week on Tuesday, March 22 and Wednesday, March 23. Listening sessions were held in Las Vegas and Carson City and focused on meeting students’ safety, mental, and behavioral health needs.

“ I am committed to listening and taking action to continue supporting the safety, mental, and social-emotional health of our students,” said Jhone Ebert, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “ It is critical to hear firsthand from the individuals who are directly experiencing our education system and have a meaningful understanding of how our students and educators are doing. Thank you to our community partners who continue to find ways to provide support to our students, educators, and their families. It is a pleasure to have Lieutenant Governor Cano Burkhead collaborating closely with the Nevada Department of Education and together we will continue to invest our time and resources to move this work forward.”

“ In my role as Lieutenant Governor, I will do what I have always done: build community, tackle big issues, and move solutions forward,” Lieutenant Governor CanoBurkhead said. “ That’s why Superintendent Ebert and I felt it important to convene roundtables in both Southern and Northern Nevada so that we can hear directly from a diverse array of stakeholders about what is needed in our schools as students return to the classroom. I sat in on these listening sessions not just as Nevada’s Lieutenant Governor but as an educator and the mother of three daughters. I will never stop fighting for our students, because they are the future of our great state.”

Listening sessions were attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, including educators, parents, and school and community leaders. Insights from the sessions will inform the upcoming work of Superintendent Ebert and Lieutenant Governor Cano Burkhead to address students’ safety and mental health.
