Nevada Growth Model

Overview

The Nevada Growth Model (NGM) is a high-quality, valid statistical model that measures the progress of individual students over time. The model indicates whether students are on track to maintain proficiency and are reaching Growth targets toward proficiency. The NGM shows individual student and school progress toward meeting state standards. Each student's progress is compared to the progress of other students in the state who have a similar score history.

Nevada measures student growth using annual Smarter Balanced assessments for Mathematics and ELA, ranging from 4th grade through 8th grade. Nevada also measures growth for English Learners (ELs) by administering the WIDA Access Assessment (Nevada’s English Language Proficiency Assessment, ELPA) annually to students in 1st grade through 12th grade. The WIDA assessment is administered in order to determine the English language proficiency of students for whom English is not their first language.

Student growth is the amount of academic progress a student has made over time in comparison with his/her academic peers. In Nevada, student growth is determined by calculating Student Growth Percentiles (SGPs). For more information about the Nevada Growth Model, please visit the Nevada Growth Model website.
