School Health Services MSM Chapter 2800

SHS are medical services provided through a Local Education Agency (LEA) or State Education Agency (SEA) for children who attend public schools in Nevada. SHS are provided to Medicaid enrolled students. SHS are medically necessary services listed in the student's Plan of Care (POC) and/or Individualized Education Program (IEP), and/or preventive services that are coverable under the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) benefits program.

Multidisciplinary Information Sessions

Beginning August 2025, Nevada Medicaid’s School Health Services (SHS) program will host Monthly virtual Multidisciplinary Information Sessions in partnership with the Nevada Department of Education. These sessions are designed to build capacity across Nevada schools and strengthen understanding of school-based Medicaid policies, procedures, and best practices.

Who Should Attend?

  • These sessions are open to all, but are especially valuable for:

  • Local Education Agency (LEA) Administrators and Medicaid Coordinators

  • School-based providers (e.g., nurses, counselors, mental health staff)

  • EHR/Billing vendors and technical staff

  • School staff involved in service delivery, documentation, or compliance

What to Expect

Each session will be 60–90 minutes, beginning with presentations from subject matter experts and ending with live Q&A to answer real-world questions from attendees. Sessions will be recorded, and all related materials (including slide decks, tip sheets, and summaries) will be made available on the School Health Access Resource Center for those unable to attend live.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand Medicaid basics and how they apply in the school setting

  • Strengthen documentation practices to support compliant, reimbursable services

  • Learn how to identify and address common billing errors and denials

  • Gain clarity on the difference between receiving services at school and in the community—and why both are allowed

  • Stay up to date with evolving policies, state guidance, and best practices for SHS

  • Improve coordination between health and education professionals for better student outcomes
