Nevada Department of Education Invites Community to Virtual Visioning Session for Future of Education on March 15

March 10, 2022

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Education (NDE or Department) invites the public to participate in Visioning and Action Planning Sessions to envision the future of learning and design student-centered solutions. Students, educators, families, education leaders, higher education institutions, businesses, and community members are encouraged to join the Visioning and Action Planning Kick-off, which will be hosted virtually on Tuesday, March 15, 4:00 – 5:30 PM PST, with several working group sessions to follow.

“I am proud of our community and school leaders for laying a foundation for the future of education, and I extend my gratitude to all who have been involved in competency-based education,” said Jhone Ebert, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “As this work moves forward I invite you to learn, explore, and participate in the conversation."

The upcoming sessions represent the next steps in Nevada’s innovative move to flexibly incorporate competency-based education practices throughout the State. Previous competency-based education work includes the Competency-Based Education Network, an opportunity created by Assembly Bill 110 (2017), and the 2020 work of the Blue Ribbon Commission whose recommendations were passed into law with Senate Bill 215 (2021).

"This is an invitation to think big, and to challenge ourselves to think differently about what we want and what it's going to take to achieve that vision," said Dr. Jonathan Moore, Deputy Superintendent for Student Achievement. “It is our hope that members of the Nevada community will participate to share their individual perspectives on education.”
