Title I Committee of Practitioners

Overview

Title I is a program created by the U.S. Department of Education to provide funding to schools and school districts with high percentages of students experiencing poverty. Title I was first established in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) in 1965 and was later updated by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Under Section 1603(b) of ESEA, as amended by ESSA, each state education agency that receives Title I funds must create a Committee of Practitioners. This committee advises the state on how to carry out Title I programs and responsibilities. It reviews proposed and final state rules related to Title I, provides support for implementing Title I programs, and discusses Title I issues and policies within the state.
