- Repealed the requirements of NAC 391.075 removing the restrictions imposed on professional development activities and allowing flexibility in obtaining professional development for licensure renewal
- Updated the renewal requirement for educator licenses in NAC 391.065 to require 15 hours each calendar year of professional development or the equivalent of in-service training

Q: Does this new regulation pertain to me if my license was issued or renewed prior to July 1, 2019?
A: Yes, however you have the option of using both credits (old system) and hours (new system) to renew your license. Once you renew your license on or after July 1, 2019, you can only use hours (new system) for license renewal.
Q: If my license was issued or renewed on or before June 30, 2019, when do professional development activities need to be completed?
A: During the course of your licensure period and prior to renewing your license.
Q: If my license was issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2019, when do professional development activities need to be completed?
A: 15 hours of professional development activities need to be completed each calendar year (January 1-December 31).
- Example 1: My license is due for renewal on November 6, 2025.
- Do I need to complete 15 hours of PD during calendar year 2019? No
- Do I need to complete 15 hours of PD during each calendar year 2020-2025? Yes
- Do I need to complete 15 hours of PD before November 5, 2025? No

Q: Does a three credit college course still count as three credits for licensure renewal?
A: Yes, if your license was issued or renewed on or before June 30, 2019. If your license was issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2019 each college semester credit will count as 15 hours of professional development in the year in which it was completed. A licensee cannot bank or roll over hours into the next calendar year.
Q: I am currently working on my National Board Certification (NBC). How does this affect my professional development requirements for licensure renewal?
A: Your NBC will satisfy the professional development requirements for license renewal. As you work through your NBC process, upload each component submission confirmation into your OPAL account to ensure accurate professional development hours are recorded. Upon successful certification, upload your National Board Certificate.
Q: What happens if I do not complete 15 hours of professional development each calendar year?
A: The license may be subject to non-renewal.
Q: Who is responsible for tracking my professional development activity?
A: It is the educator’s responsibility to complete 15 hours of professional development activity each calendar year and upload proof of such activity into their OPAL account.
