Carson City, Nev. - The Nevada Department of Education recognizes February as Career and technical Education (CTE) Month. Proclaimed by Governor Lombardo and designated by the Association for Career and Technical Education, the month recognizes the positive impacts of CTE programs on Nevada’s students and workforce.

“ Career and Technical Education programs are delivering real results, giving our Nevada economy a competitive edge, and preparing our learners for high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand careers here in the Silver State,” said Jhone Ebert, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “ Students who engage in these programs are proven to be more engaged, earn industry-recognized credentials, and have careers that are both rewarding and family-sustaining.”

“ Our Career and Technical Education programs enable Nevada students to graduate career-ready and well-equipped to enter our state workforce,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “ These programs are invaluable, and I encourage all Nevada students to learn more about pursuing CTE pathways.”

Facts and statistics related to CTE in Nevada include:

Nevada has CTE pathways in all 16 National Career Clusters available to students throughout the State, with innovative programs of study in healthcare, information technology, advanced manufacturing, construction, education, and more.

Students who participate in CTE programs experience higher graduation rates than their peers, with a 92.3% graduation rate for CTE students in the Class of 2022, compared to an 81.7% Statewide average graduation rate.

This 2022-23 school year, 77,049 high school students and 2,809 middle school students are enrolled in CTE programs of study or middle school courses. High school enrollment for schoolyear 2022-23 represents a 2% increase from the 2021-22 school year.

There are several opportunities throughout February for Nevada educators, students, parents, and families to celebrate CTE month, including the following:

Student Trophy Contest and Logo Contest

The Nevada Association for Career and Technical Education (NACTE) is hosting two separate contests open to all Nevada students. The NACTE Conference 2023 Logo Competition invites students to design a logo that reflects this year’s conference theme: The 4 C’s of CTE: Communicate, Collaborate, Create, Celebrate. The NACTE Conference 2023 Trophy Competition invites students to design a trophy that reflects this year’s conference theme. The prize for each contest is $250 cash for the student and $250 for the student’s teacher.

Nominate a CTE Educator for ACTE Excellence Awards

Nevadans can support our CTE teachers and administrators by nominating them for ACTE Excellence Awards. There are 8 categories: Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Postsecondary Professional of the Year; Counseling and Career Development Professional Award, New Teacher of the Year, Carl Perkins Community Service Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award.
