CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada State Board of Education is pleased to welcome two new members: Dr. Tricia Braxton and Danielle Ford.
Dr. Braxton and Ford joined the 11-member board for their first meeting on Wednesday. Both were elected in November to serve four-year terms.
“I am grateful that Dr. Tricia Braxton and Danielle Ford are stepping into their new leadership roles to help shape education policy in our state,” said Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “We welcome them to the State Board of Education and look forward to their contributions.”
“Members Braxton and Ford are dedicated community leaders who bring a breadth of expertise to the State Board of Education,” said Dr. Katherine Dockweiler, president of the State Board of Education. “I am eager to work with them as our Board continues to advance education policy in our state.”
Dr. Braxton, who represents District 1, has lived in Clark County for more than 21 years. She’s currently a senior coordinator at the University of Nevada, Reno Extension.
She serves on several committees at University of Nevada, Reno, supporting the neurodiversity alliance and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“I am eager to contribute to improving education during my tenure as a member of the State Board of Education representing District 1,” Dr. Braxton said. “I am glad for this opportunity to work alongside colleagues of varying ideologies and experiences to strengthen our community. I will continue to listen to the concerns of educators, students and their families to ensure their voices are represented.”
Dr. Braxton was born and raised in New York, where she served as a New York City police officer.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Howard University, and her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Ford, who represents District 3, previously served on the Clark County School District’s board of trustees from 2018 to 2022.
“I’m excited to join the Nevada State Board of Education and help ensure public education works for all students,” Ford said. “Our schools belong to the community, and I’m committed to protecting them from outside interests while creating systems that serve everyone.”
Ford is a Las Vegas native, entrepreneur, public speaker, and advocate for public education. She is a former Clark County School District student and parent of two children who attended Nevada public schools.
