3 Teachers Chosen as State Finalists for Presidential Teaching Award

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Three teachers have been selected as Nevada finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).
The three state finalists are:

Math: Christine Corbin - Del E. Webb Middle School (Clark County School District)

Science: Richard Knoeppel - Advanced Technologies Academy (Clark County School District)

Math: Taylor Kockenmeister - Traner Middle School (Washoe County School District)
These teachers are eligible to receive a PAEMST award, the nation’s highest honor for teaching in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science.
“Congratulations to the three outstanding Nevada educators - Christine Corbin, Richard Knoeppel, and Taylor Kockenmeister - who were named state finalists for the prestigious PAEMST award,” said Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “These dedicated educators go above and beyond to make science and math relevant and engaging for their students. I am proud to have them represent Nevada at the national level.”
The PAEMST awards program is administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Honorees each receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation, a presidential certificate, and trip to Washington, D.C.
They join an elite cohort of award-winning teachers who can influence state/jurisdiction and national STEM teaching.
The PAEMST awards were established by Congress in 1983. The President may recognize up to 108 exemplary teachers each year.
