Nevada State Board of Education Launches Public Survey to Begin Superintendent Search

April 28, 2025

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada State Board of Education announced on Monday the launch of a public survey to gather input as the search for the next State Superintendent of Public Instruction begins.

The Board is actively seeking feedback from stakeholders across the state to help identify the qualities, experiences, and priorities that are most important for the individual who will lead Nevada’s public education system.

The survey is available online at Nevada State Board of Education Superintendent Search Public Input Survey and will remain open through May 6.

“The selection of our next State Superintendent is a critical decision that will significantly impact the future of education in Nevada,” said Dr. Katherine Dockweiler, president of the Nevada State Board of Education. “We firmly believe that the perspectives of our community members are invaluable in this process. This survey provides a direct opportunity for everyone to share their thoughts on the leadership qualities and priorities they believe are essential for our next Superintendent.”

The State Superintendent of Public Instruction holds a pivotal position in Nevada, and is responsible for setting statewide educational policies, managing resources effectively, and ensuring that all schools meet state and federal mandates.

This leader also plays a vital role in fostering collaboration among school districts, educators, lawmakers, families, and community organizations, all with the overarching goal of supporting the success of Nevada’s students.

The Nevada State Board of Education strongly encourages all interested individuals - including parents, students, educators, administrators, business and community leaders, and community members - to participate in the survey.

Per NRS 385.150, Governor Lombardo will appoint the Superintendent of Public Instruction from a list of three candidates submitted by the State Board of Education.
