CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Education is pleased to announce the return of the DonorsChoose grant program, with $7.5 million in funding for the 2026-27 school year.

Funding is made possible by Senate Bill 90 sponsored by Sen. Marilyn Dondero Loop, passed by the Nevada Legislature during the 2025 session, and signed into law by Governor Joe Lombardo.

The grant program will provide Nevada public school educators with up to $500 for classroom projects. Eligible requests will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis beginning on Sept. 1.

“Supporting our educators is one of the best investments Nevada can make,” said Sen. Marilyn Dondero Loop. “I was proud to introduce SB90, which offers teachers grants of up to $500 for classroom projects that enhance the learning environment of students across the state. I thank DonorsChoose and the Nevada Department of Education for their efforts and wish all educators a successful school year.”

In total, $15 million is allocated for the 2025-27 biennium - $7.5 million for each fiscal year.

“The DonorsChoose grant program allows us to support hardworking educators across Nevada by providing support for classroom needs and innovative projects,” said Dr. Victor Wakefield, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “I am grateful to Senator Dondero Loop, the Nevada Legislature, and Governor Lombardo for their continued support of this program.”

The grant program is built on the success of a previous partnership between the Nevada Department of Education and DonorsChoose, a nonprofit crowdfunding website. State legislators appropriated $10 million in state general funds during the 2023 session and $15 million during the 2025 session.

As part of the partnership with the Nevada Department of Education, DonorsChoose will ensure that any requests for instructional materials align with Nevada Academic Content Standards.

Full-time preschool through 12th grade Nevada public school educators who spend at least half of their time directly educating or counseling students are eligible to create a project.

Eligible projects are anticipated to be funded within one week of posting.
