Nevada Department of Education Invites Students, Educators, and Families to Celebrate Nevada Reading Week February 27 - March 3

    February 23, 2023

CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Nevada Department of Education (NDE or Department) is celebrating Nevada Reading Week February 27 - March 3, 2023. As proclaimed by Governor Joe Lombardo, Nevada Reading Week is focused on inspiring and instilling the joy and importance of reading across the state of Nevada.

"Literacy is the anchor of education and Reading Week is a wonderful way to nurture students' passion for reading," said Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction. "The Department is proud to partner with families and educators to celebrate the power of reading to help students broaden their horizons, deepen their knowledge, and develop critical thinking skills."

The Nevada Department of Education launched Reading Week over 40 years ago as a Statewide initiative to foster a love of reading. The theme for the Nevada Reading Week 2023 is "One World, Many Stories." Congratulations to Karen Tan from the Clark County School District for being the Grand Prize winner of NDE's 2023 Nevada Reading Week Art Contest. Her artwork serves as the Statewide logo. It can be found on t-shirts, hoodies, water bottles and more! Megumi Biggs, from the Nye County School District, wins an honorable mention for the middle/high school category, and Landon Skoff, from Pinecrest Academy of Nevada, was the honorable mention for the elementary school category. The artwork of the honorable mentions and winner are hanging prominently in the Nevada Department of Education offices in both Carson City and Las Vegas.

"Not only is reading fundamental, but reading is instrumental to a lifetime of personal and academic success," said Governor Joe Lombardo. "Fostering a life-long love of reading in each and every one of our students is critically important."
