The Nevada Department of Education-Office of Comprehensive Student Services (NDE-OCSS) uses a comprehensive integrated general supervision system to monitor and support improvement in educational results and functional outcomes of students with disabilities as well as compliance with federal and state requirements in LEAs (school districts and educational programs) across the state of Nevada. This data-driven approach to monitoring provides a systematic way for the OCSS and the LEA, including stakeholders, to evaluate the educational benefits of special education services. (NVGSS)

Cycle

Nevada utilizes a four-year comprehensive compliance monitoring cycle, ensuring that at least once every four years, each LEA participates in an extensive special education monitoring review by the NDE. A 91+ item checklist monitors the record for each student selected for monitoring. Nevada implements a 100% compliance criterion. All non-compliance, both individual and systemic, must be corrected by each LEA within one year of the LEA's receipt of a finding of non-compliance. A finding is a written notification from the NDE to the LEA that the LEA is not in non-compliance.
