About the Nevada Future of Learning Network
The Nevada Future of Learning Network is central to the Nevada Department of Education's (NDE) ongoing efforts to transform Nevada's education landscape with personalized, competency-based learning. The network connects educators, community partners, parents and students in the work of developing the systems and structures needed to advance student-centered learning practices in classrooms throughout the state.
In 2021 and 2022, Nevada educators, students, families, businesses and community members came together to imagine the future of education and create an action plan for how to get there. Establishing the Nevada Future of Learning Network is a critical first step in NDE's systems transformation journey.
Transforming Education with Personalized, Competency-Based Learning
Under the guidance of the Nevada Department of Education and with the support of KnowledgeWorks, the Nevada Future of Learning Network is partnering with schools, districts and communities to deliver innovative, personalized learning opportunities for Nevada's students. Through this learner-centered education model, NDE is shifting its mindset from seat time requirements to student mastery, creating flexible learning environments and providing a range of learning experiences and supports that help students demonstrate what they know, and what they know how to do.
Nevada is working with the community to establish a shared vision for the future of learning with the Portrait of a Learner project. The portrait clearly describes key outcomes for each learner in the Nevada education system. The Nevada Future of Learning Network will help shape the statewide systems and supports using the Nevada Portrait of Learner as its guiding vision.
