Applications Now Open for State Superintendent's Teacher Advisory Cabinet

    Carson City, NV - September 07, 2021

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Today, the Nevada Department of Education (NDE or Department) opened applications for the Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Cabinet (STAC). NDE will accept applications until September 30, 2021.

The mission of the STAC is to elevate educators as experts, advisors, and leaders beyond the classroom. The STAC is comprised of exceptional educators from across Nevada who represent district and charter schools across the State. Members of the STAC serve for two years, meeting on a quarterly basis to engage in robust conversations with NDE leadership, provide feedback that informs Nevada's education policy, and collaborate with peer educators.

“We are committed to keeping the priorities and perspectives of teachers central to our work at the Nevada Department of Education,” said State Superintendent Jhone Ebert. “Participating in the STAC is a phenomenal opportunity for any Nevada teacher who is looking to have their voice heard on a Statewide level and take on new leadership opportunities.”

A key stakeholder group, the STAC's primary purpose is to inform and advise the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) on initiatives and priorities. Members not only provide insight from their experiences, but also serve as ambassadors in their school communities. For their time and participation, each STAC member may receive up to 15 professional learning hours per year.

NDE requests applications from teachers who meet the requirements listed on the STAC application form, including three or more years of experience as a licensed education professional in Nevada. Teachers who are selected for STAC will serve two-year terms and are eligible to reapply for one additional term for a total of four years.

“Participating as a member of STAC has been an invaluable leadership experience and I highly recommend that all qualified teachers in Nevada apply for the 2022-24 cohort,” said Jerri Kerns, teacher at Riverview Elementary School in Lyon County School District and 2018-21 STAC member. “Through STAC, I have had opportunities to be more hands-on with State programs, and my involvement in the group has had a longstanding impact on my perspective as an educator.”

This will be the second cohort of Nevada’s STAC, with the inaugural cohort serving from 2018-21.

    Apply for 2022-24 STAC Cohort

Educators are encouraged to apply by filling out NDE’s online STAC application form before September 30, 2021.

Based on a review of applications, NDE will select the members for the second STAC cohort and announce them in November 2021. Selected educators will serve a two-year term beginning January 1, 2022 and ending December 31, 2024.
