Native Youth Community Project (NYCP) Grant

Overview

The Nevada Department of Education is a recipient of the Native Youth Community Project (NYCP) grant for five years, starting in 2022. The NYCP focuses on ensuring that Indian students are prepared for college and careers.

The proposed project will build on a previous initiative (NYCP 2017-2021) to facilitate evidence-based professional learning opportunities and ensure that local Indian Education students are prepared for college and career.

The goals are to:

1.) Implement a successful NYCP that promotes and prepares Native American (NA) students for college and careers, with an emphasis on careers in the teaching profession;

2.) Increase student academic performance by including opportunities in the local community to support NA students; and

3.) Increase NA student motivation and readiness to attend college or vocational training.

The NDE was awarded the NYCP grant from 2017-2021, along with an extension year, ending in 2022. See the link to the NYCP Annual Evaluation Reports below, prepared by the RMC Research Evaluators.
